About Me:
I graduated from CHIJ Secondary Toa Payoh and I am a currently a local scholar at SJI International. My CCAs throughout the year consisted of Hip hop, English and Math mentoring, Basketball Social, Riding for the Disabled (Service) and Art.
To be honest, I never thought I would have come to this school. As a local student who scored 6 in Os (4 after minus-ing CCA), I was afraid that coming to an international school would not have been the best decision for my education. I was also worried that my family would worry the same. I cannot say that I entered this school with a certainty that I did the right thing. In fact, initially I wished I went to ACS Independent instead; it was my dream school back when I was in secondary school, and I even DSA-ed there before applying to SJII (Don't tell anyone I said this- our school has a kind of rivalry against ACSI haha!). I also at first experienced a culture shock because the people in our school are not like locals- also most were already good friends with each other from Grades 7-10. The learning style in this school is also different- no more spoon feeding, a lot more independent work. The teachers I feel are also very different (you can ask me more personally! :) )
However, where I stand now, I am glad to say I came to SJII. I've been exposed to so many opportunities I never would've gotten in another school - my ASTAR internship, PSC learning journey, Biology Field trip to Tioman, Challenge Week, Global STEM Alliance Course, World Scholars' Cup are just a few examples. My personality is changed by the experiences I've had and the people I've met. I have learnt so much about myself and what I am capable of.
In terms of studies, I have been getting decent marks throughout the year- I had all 7s in my first grade report, and 4 7s and 2 6s in my second one. I have the most difficulty scoring at and understanding Math, but I find Business difficult too (even though I get 7), as well as scoring at Chem (I got 6 for EOY), even though I understand Chem. Feel free to speak to me about managing studies and everything else on the side/ time management. Of course I am not an expert at this myself and need to figure out a lot of things as well. I am currently juggling my math exploration, business and biology IA, TOK presentations, English IOC practice, ASTAR proposals and an online course.
Feel free to ask me about anything! It may not necessarily be about any of the things I spoke about above. Hope to hear from you :) I love to make new friends, especially those who aren't the same age as me.
Fun Fact:
I believe that every individual has an opportunity to make a difference. I just don't know what that difference is yet. And I hope my journey through SJII will help me figure that out more clearly.
